BROADSTONE 140-8 lost to BERE REGIS 141-3 by seven wickets & WIMBORNE 152-8 beat BERE REGIS 128 by 24 runs

BERE Regis finished runners-up on Dorset T20 Finals Day as Wimborne claimed the title at Hamworthy courtesy of a 24-run victory.

The Minstermen will now represent Dorset in the ECB National Club T20.

Bere won a difficult South West group to progress to the final four and faced South East winners Broadstone in the semi-finals.

Charlie Groves smashed 58 from 37 balls and Nat Cherry 37 from 26 as Broadstone posted 140-8, off-spinner Dean Rogerson restricting the Delph side with 4-18.

Bere’s top three then did the damage in the chase, Cam Robertson ending on 60 not out with good support from Tom Munnings (34) and Theo Talbot (28), winning with 17 balls to spare.

Bere faced a step up in calibre in the final, though, against a side who 24 hours earlier had beaten them in the 100-over format.

Wimborne used the powerplay to spectacular advantage, crashing 74 from seven overs as Hugh Atkinson made 52 from only 23 balls.

Harry Serjeant (32) and Fred Boger (21) chipped in but Bere’s bowlers battled back, limiting the score to 152-8 with Jacob Kennard taking 3-26.

In the chase, Bere found life tough on a wicket offering turn, Alfie Appleby-Ingram snaring 3-12 and Atkinson 3-33.

Munnings (41) proved their main hope but, once he perished lbw to Connor Houldsworth (2-16), Bere could not live with the asking rate despite 20 for Pete Macklin, 19 for Harry Green and 18 for Sam Goodhew as they fell 24 runs short.

Speaking to Echosport, Bere skipper Brian Keegan felt the powerplay cost his side.

“Wimborne used their brains when batting,” he said.

“It’s a big old field and they hit ones and twos, turning the strike around and the scoreboard ticking over.

“They played intelligent cricket and that’s what we needed to do more of when we were chasing.

“The powerplay definitely made a big difference in the second game with a worn wicket. It makes it doubly difficult.

“If we could’ve kept them down to 130, you definitely would’ve been well and truly in the game.

“You have to execute your plans and skills in that powerplay. If you don’t, sides get off to a flier and you’re always trying to pull it back.”
