MARTINSTOWN 199-2 (20pts) beat CATTISTOCK & SYMENE 195 (5pts) by eight wickets. 

MARTINSTOWN secured a hat-trick of Wessex Internet Dorset Premier League wins with a speedy chase against Sherborne.

Charlie Durant's men have now beaten Sherborne, Broadstone and the Foxes as they gather a head of steam for the first time this season.

Cattistock and Symene won the toss and started well with the bat before an incredible catch turned the game.

Wes Lewis (15) crashed three fours before a sweet strike was spectacularly caught by Steve Gerety off David Trotter (2-16).

Cattistock then lost a second wicket in quick succession when Trotter trapped George Foot (0) leg before.

Jacob Coombs (2-44) struck again for the hosts to remove Leo Gurd (12) and Fraser Hill (2-54) continued his wicket-taking form with the crucial scalp of Steve Tucker (21) after dismissing Jason Bradley (15).

The visitors were now in peril of a low total on 83-5 before excellent knocks from Brad Mullins (44) and Ollie Legg (38) at close to a run per ball dragged the Foxes back into the contest.

The duo hit 14 fours and a six between them before Durant (3-31) ousted both men and bowled James England for a golden duck.

Jack Kane (1-46) and Coombs polished off the tail as Martinstown were set a 196 target for victory.

And Town threatened to chase it down without the loss of a wicket as Ed Nichols and Henry Lewis came out firing.

Between them, they amassed 127 for the first wicket before Lewis (52) departed to Sam Baker having struck 11 fours in a patient innings.

Baker (2-39) collected a bowling point for the Foxes by trapping Sean Williams (1) leg before, prior to the Will Maltby show.

The gifted young batter carted a sublime unbeaten 52 from just 31 balls, featuring five boundaries and four sixes, in his 65-run stand with Nichols.

So powerful and lucrative was his hitting, he beat Nichols (49no) to a half-century as the pair knocked off the runs with 16 overs to spare.

Speaking to Echosport, Durant said: “No complaints from me, there was no point where we got complacent even when we had them five down.

“We kept plugging away, stuck at it and bowled them out for less than 200 which, on the deck and outfield we had, we felt was always a bit below par.

“I can’t be any happier, we’ve picked up maximum points in the last three games. If only the league started on June 10th we would be top."

He added: “Steve’s taken an absolute blinder, Henry and Ed have stuck at it and then Will’s come in and gone absolutely berserk.

“He was striking it as sweet as mango chutney. Ed was on 47 when he came in and then Will’s scored a fifty in the time Ed’s scored two runs. It was a bit of a joke, really.”

Martinstown move up to sixth, while Cattistock & Symene go bottom.

Martinstown Seconds lost by 114 runs at Swanage Seconds in County Division Four.
