BUCKINGHAMSHIRE 180 (0pts) lost to DORSET 275-7 (2pts) by 95 runs

SAM Young scored a blistering unbeaten century as Dorset stormed to a 95-run victory over Buckinghamshire in their opening NCCA Trophy match at Gerrards Cross.

Young, one of the county’s star performers in recent years, scored nearly half of Dorset’s runs after the visitors were invited to bat first upon losing the toss.

Buckinghamshire’s decision paid dividends early on as former Worcestershire Seconds seamer Ed Bragg (4-42) removed Dorset skipper Luke Webb (12).

He then induced Hampshire talent Felix Organ (21) into offering a catch and later removed England Under-19s maestro Joseph Eckland (6).

However, Young rallied for Dorset in partnership with Alex Eckland as the duo piled on 179 for the fourth wicket after David Scott (11) nicked Conner Haddow (1-37) behind.

Although Eckland (80) perished with a century in his sights, Young (132no) was striking the ball to all parts, smacking seven fours and eight maximums in his 118-ball stay.

Buckinghamshire saw Bragg return to remove Jacob Gordon first ball and Thomas Hampton (2-65) claimed a late brace, but Dorset crunched 27 runs in the final 12 balls to score 275-7 in their 50 overs.

Dorset got off to a dream start in their defence, outstanding young seamer Toby Pattemore taking four wickets including the prize scalp of ex-Netherlands international Alexei Kervezee (8).

Bucks were 35-4 but recovered to 104-4 as AJ Woodland and Chris Marrow (32) steadied the ship.

Dorset delivered the telling blows in the middle overs, though, as spinner Connor Smith (2-33) took two quick wickets after David Scott removed Marrow.

And a run out by Ollie Breckon ensured the pressure intensified on opener Woodland to keep Bucks alive.

He responded by moving onto 74 before sharp work from Joseph Eckland behind the stumps saw him stumped off Gordon (1-23).

Finishing off the innings in style was Pattemore (5-52), who secured his maiden fifer by bowling Hampton, whose 30 from 16 balls proved in vain as the hosts fell to 180 all out.

Dorset move second in Group Four behind Wiltshire, and next host Staffordshire at Bashley on Sunday (11am).
