POOLE TOWN 49-1 (20pts) beat CATTISTOCK & SYMENE 48 (0pts) by nine wickets

CATTISTOCK & Symene suffered a nine-wicket thumping by Poole Town after being bowled out for 48 in their Dorset Premier League clash at Poole Park.

After winning the toss and batting first, the Foxes fell to a dismal 10-6 as seamers Jordan Down (3-10) and Dan Jackson (3-19) destroyed the top order.

Captain Steve Tucker struck a defiant 28 but Scott Bellamy (2-2) removed him and helped finish off the Foxes for just 48, along with Joey Wormington (2-4).

Poole took their time getting to the winning line as Brad Mullins (1-7) trapped Alex Allum (18) lbw.

It was left to Jamie Bennett (15no) and Bellamy (11no) to see Poole home with 26 overs remaining.

Cattistock & Symene host Broadstone on Saturday (1pm).

CATTISTOCK & SYMENE II 277-8 beat MARTINSTOWN II 130 by 147 runs

CATTISTOCK & Symene Seconds maintained their unbeaten start to the County Division Three season with an emphatic 147-run win over Martinstown Seconds.

Skipper and opening bat Reuben Kingston won the toss and under clear blue skies had no hesitation in opting to bat first, setting the tone with a swashbuckling run-a-ball 49 in an opening partnership of 67 with Sam Good.

The burly Good was the first to depart in the seventh over for a typically hard-hitting innings of 43 off 28 balls, with 38 coming from boundaries.

Martinstown’s Lee House (2-66) hit back with the removal of Kingston to stabilise proceedings, at one point restricting the home side to 137-5 due to some accurate bowling from Ed Maltby (1-32).

But thanks to another blistering innings from the in-form Toby Hall, the Foxes came back into it with a sixth-wicket partnership of 132 alongside Leo Gurd (42), feasting on some tiring bowlers to accelerate towards a forbidding total of 277.

Hall eventually perished bowled by Will Harris (2-47), limping, for an outstanding 94-run innings from just 96 deliveries, falling agonisingly short of a second century in successive games.

The Foxes were able to post 277-8 from their 40 overs and, with runs in the bank, Kingston was able to set a very attacking field.

In reply, this quickly paid dividends with the impressive Robin Jones (3-20) alongside young Bradley Wilkinson, on debut at this level, soon dismissing both openers by the fourth over.

Although left-hander Steve Gerety, with 32, led a fightback of sorts the run-rate climbed above nine at one point.

Seeking to push home the advantage, and with Good (0-40) proving expensive, Kingston made the shrewd decision to entrust the ball once again to Wilkinson who, with pacy, accurate bowling, and at one point on a hat-trick, triggering an epic collapse to finish with outstanding figures of 6-20 from just 5.5 overs.

Speaking afterwards Kingston said: “I’m absolutely chuffed with the lads’ effort and the result.

“It was nice for a number of us to be amongst the runs and set that total. Our bowling was superb, notably Jonesy but in particular young Bradley who bowled phenomenally.

“Once we removed their dangerman Ed Maltby, the writing was on the wall. Looking forward to Kingston Lacy next week.”
