WEYMOUTH College Tropics kept their momentum going as they squared up against fresh opponents to go top of the league table.

IN their first game of the day against Tres Barrilles, they faced a side that put out their A team and looked for revenge as the Tropics took apart the B team last time out.

Weymouth started very well implementing their press defence. Eric Robertshaw and Matt Will-iams-Davey solidified the play, dominating the offensive boards and allowing Max Gilmartin, pictured, and Luke Strong to score easily.

Weymouth were dominant as their opponents could only watch as the score increased and they finished the contest with a 71-36 win.

THE two-hour rest inbetween fixtures was the side’s worst enemy as the under-16 Weymouth side looked weary early on.

As the second half kicked in, the amazing 40 potential missed layups began to drop as the Tropics found form from Gilmartin and Jerry Thompson, and began to build a commanding lead.

With strong defensive performances from Kim De Leon and Rev Santos, Weymouth gave the final push and secured a 42-28 victory, a result which saw them secure top spot in the division.

Coach Alex Fuhrmann said: “We got unlucky with the two hour break, but it just shows how good this team really is.

“I was happy with our intensity in terms of effort and it was great to see a first game showing from a couple of guys who made their season debuts.”
