The day started bright and very breezy, it looked like great sailing conditions but as soon as the 470 sailors pulled up their sails on the beach you could tell it was howling. Sadly this meant the postponement flag was raised to hold us ashore and a five hour wait ensued.
After many cups of tea, cakes, videos, films and chat they dropped the flag and we were off. The wind had dropped a lot which was a bit of a sad anti-climax but it was still great racing and so nice to finally get out there again when it really means something.
The first race we got our rig set-up a bit wrong and found ourselves a bit slow. We hung in there and made the best of the set-up we had and sailed a good race to get back into it and finish with a 5th.
Race two and a better first beat and some good speed and we rounded 3rd at the first mark. After a few snakes and ladders we found some good ladders towards the end and got ourselves a 2nd.
We are pleased with that as a first day, two good solid scores, it would have been easy to have a big score today that could prove expensive further into the series. I personally have to admit to a bit of pre-race day nerves, not a lot of sleep so very excited about hitting the sack this evening. As you'd imagine Peter was solid as a rock.
Dylan and Alain had a great day as well with two bullets. We sit third overall and will look forward to a good sleep tonight and lots more racing tomorrow. Keep an eye on the site for more updates as well as links to the event homepage and the 49er results. www.teamdrapergreenhalgh.co.uk Thanks to all for your ongoing support.
