Yesterday marked 500 days to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympics. I spent the day in Weymouth at the Olympic sailing venue with a group of budding youngsters, some of them excellent youth sailors already and some aspiring Olympians from the local Portland primary school.

It was great to see their enthusiasm for the games coming to London and in particularly for them having the sailing event in Weymouth.

It is a good reminder for my sailing partner Peter and I how soon the games are and how important it is that we put all our training into practice over the coming months.

2011 is all about qualifying for our position in the British Olympic team and in Britain alone we have 5 other teams in the top 12 in the World.

Unlike Athletics, only one team gets to represent GBR at the games even though there are so many of us capable of winning a medal. Peter and I have both been through the disappointment of not qualifying before and we do not plan to go through it again.

Tomorrow we head out to Palma to do our final training camp before we start the racing season properly. We will be out there training with the rest of the Skandia Team GBR 49ers so it will be nice to get a reference for how we have improved over the winter.

Our final training camp in Cadiz last week was exactly what we hoped for. After the carnival regatta I said to Peter and Harv, how perfect would our winter training be if we got big breeze at the next camp, and sure enough, it came.

We had three really good full on days sailing with our training group and then a lighter day to finish. We packed up the kit, said our thank you's and good byes and Harvey very kindly drove all our kit out to Palma for us.

We have a few key things we plan to work on in the training camp in Palma based around our learning from the Carnival regatta, these all start to tie in with us raising our racing sharpness for the events ahead.

On another note we are also very lucky to recently welcomed a new partner to the team. We are very pleased to have VSI thinking join us and they have built us our fantastic new website: teamdrapergreenhalgh.co.uk .

It is much easier to navigate around and looks great. The site features a really simple to use content management system that means even sailors like us can use it!

They are helping us to raise our Google profile through search engine optimization so we can give much more back to our other partners as well in this final home straight to the Olympics.

Mark Thomas, director of VSI thinking said: “We are delighted to be British medal hopefuls at the Olympics, we wish Chris and Pete every success.”

Please keep an eye on the new site for our upcoming blogs, there are some new videos on there and plenty more to come imminently.

Thanks once again to everyone for their ongoing support, we look forward to keeping you up to speed with our progress.

All the best Chris and Peter
