KYLE Critchell is intent on producing his best form for Dorchester Town despite doubts over his availability.

The versatile full-back is set to try and juggle the demands of work, football and a part-time course at Bath University.

And while admitting there is a chance he could be forced to sit out some of the Magpies’ games this coming season, the 25-year-old remains hopeful those fears will not come to fruition.

He told Echosport: “I have sat down with everyone to talk about my situation and there have been a couple of offers for me, and I wasn’t sure what to do.

“But I have decided not to worry about things and just see where the season goes.

“Phil Simkin and Shaun Hearn have been a credit to themselves and the club throughout the whole process and I hope I have behaved in the right manner as well.

“Phil wants me to stay and he will try and help me in any way he can. I just don’t want to take the mickey and be available for some games but not others.

“Hopefully I won’t miss any – that is the plan – but academically I may need to take time off to get the work done.

“It’s a two-year foundation degree, which is part-time, but the third year is a full-time degree.

“I will continue to work throughout the whole process as well so it’s going to be a tough time.

“I’ll just see where it takes me but I have got a club in Dorchester Town that have been great and very supportive of me. Everyone has been fantastic, I just hope I can repay them during the season and produce my best form.”

Illness kept Critchell sidelined for the Magpies’ first two games of pre-season.

He returned as a second-half substitute during the 3-0 defeat to Yeovil Town, playing on the right-hand side of midfield, and then regained his customary right-back role for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Bideford.

Critchell added: “As a right-back a lot of people put me in the top two or three in the league, which is nice to hear, but as long as I play I don’t care where it is.

“I can do a job wherever I play and that was the way I was brought up to play.

“The first three games were against top-class opposition when you compare them to the level of football we play at, but now we have games that we should be winning so in a way our pre-season started on Saturday.”

Looking ahead to the new Blue Square Bet South campaign, which starts on August 18 with the visit of Eastbourne Borough, the defender is optimistic that the Magpies’ style of play will reap rewards.

He said: “With Phil and Stuart Heath we get the freedom to express ourselves and do what we feel is right. With freedom comes enjoyment and hopefully that will bring good results.

“Full credit to Phil and Stuart for letting us play that way and hopefully we will repay their faith.”

Dorchester’s next pre-season assignment is Saturday’s short trip to Weymouth for Ian Hutchinson’s testimonial.
