WITCHAMPTON 135 (6pts) lost to WEYMOUTH SECONDS 136 (20pts) by four wickets

WEYMOUTH Seconds finally broke their duck in Dorset League Division Two with a four-wicket victory at Witchampton.

The hosts batted first and looked to be going along nicely at 51-1 before the Seasiders turned up the heat with Graham Puckett (3-47) and Ryan Sers (2-32) both taking key wickets to destabilise the top-half of the line-up.

It was then left to Ryan Monk (3-16) and skipper Michael Pearce (2-27) to complete the job as Witchamp-ton’s innings eventually closed on 135 all out.

Having fell just short in their previous two run chases, the Seasiders knew they needed to get their reply off to a solid start. And their top order delivered with Monk (17) and Will McKay (37) putting on 42 for the opening wicket before Pete Gordon (30) continued the momentum.

I Broom (3-44) and S Hibberd (2-22) then hit back with the ball to get nerves jangling but the visitors retained their composure and eventually got home with 10 balls to spare thanks to the calm head of Harry Tucker (13 not out).

The Seasiders, who were deducted 40 points earlier in the season for scratching a game, remain at the foot of the table but have closed the gap on second-bottom Beaminster to 55 points.
