WINFRITH are just a victory away from lifting the Dorchester Evening League Division Two title.
The table-toppers have been in sensational form this summer with nine wins from as many games.
And victories over Frampton and Puddletown within the last week have put them on the verge of glory.
First, bowler Ryan Norman (3-13) played a key role in restricting Frampton to 93-9, with Dan Pope (35) leading the reply as Winfrith reached their target with six wickets to spare.
Then, Matt Thomas’ (58) fine half-century helped the leaders post a mammoth 191-7 before Norman (4-12) starred once more as Puddle-town could only manage 92-8 in response.
Winfrith are four points clear at the summit and will clinch the crown if they beat second-place Bere Regis tomorrow night.
Also in the second tier, Charlton Down (135-3) got the better of Abbotsbury (107-5) thanks to some useful contributions from Ian Doyle (46 not out) and Tim Durston (2-18).
St George’s (156-7) remain on course to regain the Division One trophy after maintaining their 100 per cent record against Cerne Valley (119-5).
Sam Goodhew (54) weighed in with a half-century and Rich Cole returned figures of 2-18 to lead their side to victory – despite a tremendous effort of 78 from Valley batsman Alex Healey.
Hazelbury Bryan rubbed further salt in the wounds of Martinstown in the top flight’s other fixture.
The latter entered the clash on the back of a Knockout Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Cattistock – a game which also doubled up as a league encounter.
And after Bryan closed on 117-8, with a little help from Henry Lewis (3-6), Martinstown fell agonisingly short at 106-7.
Adam Barrett struck two half-centuries as Puddletown Reser-ves ended their Division Three campaign on a high.
His first (52 not out) came in a seven-wicket win against Colliton Club while the second (53) led the reserve side to a 29-run victory over rivals Puddletown RFC.
George Chubb plundered 89 and Roger Edmunds snared 4-18 as Plush (176-5) overcame Charlton Down Seconds (114) while leaders Churches United (120-4) earned another vital win in their quest for promotion, beating mid-table outfit Winfrith Seconds (116-4).
