Dorchester Under-18s will be looking to defend the Bright Sparks Cup on Sunday, August 5 at Dorchester Rec where they meet Martinstown and 2010 champions Cerne Valley in a Twenty20 competition (10.30am).
The county town side, who defeated Weymouth in last year’s competiton thanks to a match-winning performance from Jon Legg, will no doubt want to retain the cup on home soil but they will face stiff competition from neighbours Cerne and Henry Lewis’ Martinstown.
Co-organiser Lee House said: “Many thanks go to Ross Moors, of Bright Sparks electricians, who has agreed to sponsor the competition once more.
“Without Ross’ generosity we would struggle to run this competition to the standard the lads deserve.
“Thanks also to Rachel Bailey and the Dorchester & District Evening League for all their help and support.
“These folk give up their time to run a fine league and I know this season, with all the rain, has provided many headaches but they continue to work hard without complaint.”
The competition, designed to showcase local cricketing talent and bridge the gap between youth and adult cricket, was reformed in 2009 after an absence of 50-odd years.
Spectators are encouraged to attend what should be a memorable day with some outstanding cricket on display.
