SAM Trott made home advantage count to scoop one of the top titles at Weymouth Golf Club’s annual Junior Open.
A strong field of over 65 entries took part in this year’s competition, which was both an EZGO Tour and girls’ Order of Merit event.
Weymouth saw five of their juniors get amongst the prizes with Trott claiming the biggest of all by posting a fine nett 63 off his 25 handicap to secure the Junior Open handicap title.
Broadstone’s Alex Heath (nett 65) finished second to Trott followed by Dorset Golf & Country Club’s Callum Ward and Weymouth duo Sean Dimmick and Royce Williams (all nett 66).
There was more local representation in the scratch competition where Came Down’s Sam Roles triumphed with a gross 72. He also won the reintroduced neatest card award.
The over-28 handicap crown went to Cameron Laird with an incredible 45 points followed by Weymouth’s Simon Rose (36 points), while there was a Parkstone double in the girls’ section with Alex Cornell and Jessica Stott claiming the handicap and scratch titles respectively.
Weymouth junior organiser Luke Bartlett was delighted with the overall success of the event and was quick to thank the players and their parents for all their support.
He also gave a special mention to club professional Des Lochrie, club captain Dave Picton and Martin Hawkins for all their help on the day.
