A NEW name will appear on the Dorchester Evening League Knockout Cup tonight as Dewlish battle it out with Cattistock in this year’s final at the Rec (6.30pm).
Neither side has lifted the trophy although the former fell at the final hurdle 12 months ago as they suffered heartache at the hands of Herrison Youth, who have since disbanded.
Cattistock have already tasted victory against Dewlish in Division One action and currently sit second in the table – two places and six points above this evening’s opponents.
However, captain Billy Walbridge insists his men remain the underdogs.
He said: “It would be nice to win in our first final but I would say we are the underdogs so we will just have to see.
“We came up from Division Two last year and for me this is the first time I’ve played in Division One.
“We were just happy to stay in the division so we’ve exceeded all expectations by getting to the cup final and winning five out of our first seven league games.
“We have beaten Dewlish already this season but tonight we will be a different story.
“We are playing well though, and at the end of the day we are treating it like it’s just another game. If we win, we win and if we lose, we lose – we’ve done well just to get here.
“It’ll be a good experience for everyone. I have never been in a final before and a few of the others in the team haven’t either, so we’re looking forward to it.”
On the subject of team news, Walbridge added: “Martin Langford has a bit of a knee injury and Martin Oliver has had a sickness bug so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that they are okay to play."
