THE Browne brothers led the way for Weymouth Veterans as they overcame their Yeovil counterpart in a charity match at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
The Terras won the game 4-3 with Alex and Simon Browne both finding the net for the hosts along with Pete Conning and Ian Hutchinson. Rob Smith, Terry Cotton and Simon Gale replied for the Glovers.
The clash also attracted a good crowd and raised a total of £755, which will be shared between the St Margaret’s Hospice and the Purbeck Isle Memorial Fund.
Match organiser Rex Buttle, who turned out for Yeovil, told Echosport: “First of all I would like to thank Nigel Biddlecombe and everyone at Weymouth FC who worked really hard in helping us put this game on.
“It was certainly worthwhile and the players and the crowd seemed to enjoy it immensely.
“Some of the lads had not seen each other for years and it made for a great atmosphere both during the game and in the bar afterwards, which was packed.
“In fact, it was such a success we are now looking into the possibility of making it an annual game with a different cause being chosen for each occasion.
“I think the game was also fantastic for the local community and I would like to thank the players for taking part and also for their donations – it really was a fantastic afternoon.”
Buttle is now looking forward to this Saturday when his newly-formed Weymouth Under-18s side take on Bristol City Under-18s at the Bob Lucas Stadium at 11am.
