WEYMOUTH Martial Arts Centre’s King Tiger Thai Boxing Club has enjoyed a hugely successful first half of the year.
The seaside outfit has seen fighters competing all over the country, and also in Thailand and Germany, in Muay Thai, MMA, K-1 Kickboxing and White Collar boxing.
And they also boast two new champions in the form of Kerin Law and Niko Tokas.
The former became the WKA Ladies British 65k Amateur Thai Boxing champion after dropping Coventry’s Fern Mills in the final round of a hard fought contest to seal a close points victory in Cannock.
Tokas meanwhile, in only his second ever contest, stepped in at late notice to stop double Welsh champion Jason Collard of the Cardiff-based Eagles gym in the first round to be crowned the WRSA Anglo-Welsh 65k champion.
At the same show in Barry, King Tiger’s undefeated cruiserweight star Dan Hutchens set a club record for the fastest knockout when he stopped his opponent with a devastating headkick in just 10 seconds.
There were also wins for Darren Anstley, who bagged a third round knockout, Billy Ellis and Sam Osmond – both of whom won on points.
Club coach Tom Ashe said: “Weymouth Martial Arts Centre has been established in the town for over 20 years and in that time we’ve trained over 75 champions of all ages in all disciplines from area through to world championship level.
“It is a great time to be involved with the club as we have a great team of young fighters breaking through, especially in our Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) classes.”
