KANE Hamilton walked away from Portland Amateur Boxing Club’s annual presentation night with two of the biggest awards on offer.
The Western Counties champion and National Schoolboy quarter-finalist picked up the Junior Boxer of the Year before then going on to land the Boxers’ Boxer of the Year, which is seen as the most sought after trophy of the evening as it is voted for by all club members.
Arran Thomas, another Western Counties representative, was named Senior Boxer of the Year with Derry McNulty claiming the female equivalent.
Club secretary Vince Ealson said: “The evening was held at the Conservative Club in Easton and it was great to see so many people turn up with standing room only as the hall was full.
“John Mackenzie from Redfern Solicitors came to present the worthy winners with their trophies and Tina Wardel from Lyndale stores presented the Paddy Brown Memorial Trophy for the boxers’ boxer.
“Portland ABC has had a good year with many new faces coming to the club and the recent completion of an extension to the front of the building.
“On the boxing front, Kane Hamilton has stood out in the juniors becoming a Western Counties champion and a National Schoolboy quarter-finalist in his class.
“Senior boxer Arran Thomas also represented the Western Counties again and the club has also got a new member on the coaching side in ex-Navy coach Martin Gosling.
“Next season also looks promising with several members of the Kid Gloves group set to move up to the juniors.”
