Dorchester will ensure they are fully prepared for tomorrow’s visit of Blandford (1.30pm) – even though the Dorset Premier League enc-ounter could be in doubt.
With more rain forecast on the back of last weekend’s deluge and yesterday’s heavy downpours, the county town outfit face the possibility of back-to-back washouts.
However, despite the uncertainty, vice-captain Dan Belt and his troops will prepare as normal.
He said: “We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that we don’t get much rain today, to help give the pitch time to drain out.
“We’ll try and train as normal tonight and it’s the only way we can go. Not much cricket is being played at the moment so you can just get in as much as you can.
“It’s not easy for anyone so all you can do is deal with it and try to do the best you can on the day and hope the result goes your way.”
The last meeting between the two sides holds fond memories for Dorchester as they bagged their first victory of the campaign.
Blandford may sit second from bottom with only one win thus far but Belt is taking nothing for granted.
He added: “It wasn’t a convincing win at Blandford and it was a bit of a struggle given the damp conditions.
“The conditions will probably be similar tomorrow so we need to go out there with the same mentality and do the basics well.
“We haven’t been playing bad cricket of late, the results just haven’t gone our way.
“We have had an inconsistent line-up at times and we seem to only bat or bowl well. We need to try and combine the two and if we do that the results will go our way.
“They have been struggling but that won’t matter on the day. They are capable of beating any team so we’ve got to go into the game with the mentality that they are top of the league.
“We need the points badly. We want to keep ourselves in and around mid-table so we need to push for every point.”
Rob Waite is unavailable tomorrow but fellow top-order batsman Steve Gerety returns while youngsters Will Cald-well, 13, and Marcus Evans, 15, both retain their places in the side.
Dorchester: Lewis, Moxom, Gerety, Sibley, Belt, Goodhew, Miller, Caldwell, Evans, Dunham, Fitzgerald.
* Dorchester Seconds are due to visit Shillingstone in Dorset League Division Two while the third team prepare to welcome Henstridge to Charlton Down in Division Five North & West (both 2pm).
