Door is open for Byerley

The 27-year-old has been attracted to the lure of full-time Football at Kettering Town but with acting chairman George Rolls having been banned from all football for five years by the Football Association, and the Poppies facing a winding-up petition due to be heard in the High Court later today, a dramatic U-turn is not out of the question.

Byerley’s switch has been held up for the past couple of weeks due to an outstanding loan with the Terras, but he has now paid a proportion of that £2,000 back, and is keen to hold talks with the club over the ongoing situation.

Weymouth chairman Nigel Biddlecombe said: “My understanding from Mark Coleman (vice-chairman) is that Warren has paid a proportion of the loan back in cash and wants to sit down with us to work things through. “Apparently he is sick of the situation and wants to get it sorted one way or the other but obviously there are new question marks now.

“I haven’t spoken to Warren myself but it could be with George Rolls’ ban and Kettering’s continuing problems financially, he may now be in a bit of a quandary and despite everything that has happened I don’t think the door is closed here, if Brendon King and Matt Groves wanted him back.

“As much as we have been very disappointed with the entire situation, we do realise that footballers want to make a career out of it, and that it is a short career.

“Bearing that in mind, if Warren wanted to come back it would be something we would consider and it would be the management team that would make the final decision.”

When asked for his thoughts on the ongoing situation, Terras’ boss Brendon King added: “Warren has not been in touch with me for a while but there is always a way back in football.

“Of course there would be bridges to cross and obviously as a club we would have to talk about that but if everything was right for everybody then it could happen, but we will just have to wait and see.”
