PHIL Simkin remains confident of landing a new front-man despite missing out on Gosport’s Justin Bennett.
Former Magpie Michael Walker, now captain of Poole Town, alleged last Saturday that the Borough forward, 29, had agreed terms on a switch to Dorchester Town.
But since Gosport’s Evo-Stik Division One S&W play-off final victory over the Dolphins, the 42-goal striker has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Privett Park.
Unperturbed, Simkin has moved on to other targets.
The county town boss said: “He was possibly an option for us at one stage but down to circumstances beyond our control that option is now closed, so we move on.
“There are a lot of players around and we have quite a few irons in the fire so there’s no need to panic.
“I’ll be talking to two players next week and I’m on the phone talking to people all the time to be honest.
“But when you have a limited budget things are not always easy and you have to work that bit harder.
“However, I have a lot of contacts and there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes.
“I go on holiday next month and I would like to get 90 per cent of our business done by then.
“We’ve already added Jason Matthews and I will look to add one or two more.”
