WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2
BLANDFORD UNITED 2
JAKE Richmond is adamant the future looks bright at Weymouth FC after an encouraging second-half of the season for the reserves.
The Terras completed their campaign with a 2-2 home draw against Blandford United last Saturday but it has been their performances over the past four months that have really caught the eye.
Joint-boss Richmond told Echosport: “A few weeks ago we didn’t want the season to end but over the last two or three games you could see the boys need a rest.
“Since Christmas they have been superb and a pleasure to work with.
“Their performances, attitude and commitment have all been spot on and I am confident we can all push on again next season.
“We are in it to develop players at the end of the day and it is great to see how far the younger ones have come on.
“The other great thing is that people have begun to notice how we are doing things here and are even calling us now to ask if they can come down for pre-season, which is fantastic.”
Matt Head and Rob Maxted were the men that found the target against the Royals and Richmond was satisfied with the outcome.
He added: “We played brilliantly in the opening 30 minutes. We had a lot of possession and created several chances.
“Rob had a shot saved and Charlie Holland sent an effort just wide before Matt eventually gave us the lead on 26 minutes.
“However, on the half-hour, they then broke away from our corner and grabbed an equaliser, which completely knocked us off our stride.
“After that, for the next 15 minutes we were awful and half-time couldn’t come quick enough.
“We tried to pick the lads up at the break but just three minutes after the restart, Blandford grabbed a second when Jamie Perry came for a corner and didn’t get there, allowing one of their lads to nod the ball back across goal to set up a simple tap-in.
“That was unfortunate for Jamie because he has been fantastic in recent weeks but all credit to the boys because they immediately went up the other end and squared it up again with Rob heading in a corner from Luke Winsper.
“From there, it was pretty much all us but we just couldn’t find a winner and by the end I think both sides were happy to settle for the draw.”
