FAMILY, friends and local businessmen took to a sodden Grove Corner pitch to pay tribute to Portland legend Butch Nash.
The founder of Portland Stone Limited passed away in December after a three-year battle with lung cancer.
And to honour his memory, son Danny organised a charity football match at the home of the Blues, which also helped raise money for the Butch Nash Charity Foundation.
Danny said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day and the wet weather made it good fun.
“Given the weather I didn’t think many people would turn up but the turnout was fantastic and I was really chuffed – it made my day.
“We had a raffle and a few drinks afterwards and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We also raised around £3,000 for local charities.
“Everyone is keen to be involved again next year, when we hope to make the event even bigger.”
In the match itself, Portland Stone All Stars ran out 6-2 winners against the Wide Street Wonders.
