NEWPORT, IOW 0 DORCHESTER RES 3 DORCHESTER Town Reserves stretched their unbeaten run to three games in the Wyvern Premier League.

Following back-to-back draws with Fleet Town and Bemerton Heath Harlequins, the young Magpies inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Newport.

Josh Tennant, Matt Goodland and Antony Carlile all found the net on the Isle of Wight.

Reserve-team assistant Dave Kiteley said: “Only four or five of the players who played in the draw with Bemerton, a game we should have won comfortably, went to the Isle of Wight, which shows what a reserve team is all about.

“We took a very young side with us, including three who made their reserve-team debut.

“We worked out that the average age of the squad was just 17, so all in all it was a decent trip for us.

“It was a pleasing performance, especially in defence as it was our first clean sheet since we beat Poole a month ago.

“Steven Walker has had his critics in the past, myself included, but he took the captain’s armband, he marshalled the back four and put in a very mature performance.

“Danny Way looks a very good prospect as does Craig Machie, who made his debut after coming from Yeovil.

“It was a difficult decision for our keeper Dan Floyd to join us but his presence will be a real asset.”

Discussing striker Goodland, a recent arrival, Kiteley added: “He’s had a couple of bad injuries but he’s worked hard over the last 12 months and he came training a couple of weeks ago.

“He looked sharp against Bemerton and also against Newport. He looks to be a decent acquisition.”

The county town outfit travel to Bashley this Thursday night (7.45pm).
