SHAUN Hearn has called for a united front as the Magpies bid to change their fortunes in Blue Square Bet South.
In another frank interview with Echosport, the Dorchester Town chairman has asked for everyone at the club to take responsibility for the disappointing start to the campaign and come out all guns blazing for the cause.
Talk of possible cuts at the Avenue Stadium led to first-team manager Ashley Vickers holding a meeting with his squad on Tuesday night but Hearn is confident the players understand the current situation and will respond in the right manner.
He said: “We have gone over budget and I have already taken responsibility for that.
“However, we are where we are and now it is even more important that we sit within the budget we set at the start of the season.
“It is not a case of people taking pay cuts, it is just a case of shuffling the pack and we are currently in the process of talking to players and renegotiating contracts for next season, which is a normal situation.
“We have some fantastically talented players that we want to keep at the club for next year and although a lot of people have already written us off this season, hopefully that will prove a blessing in disguise.
“As chairman I have been very impressed with the conversations I have had recently with some of the players and in particular Ashley Vickers.
“The way he has responded has been fantastic and it is all about not panicking and trying to turn everything into a positive.
“We certainly do not want anyone making any rash decisions because now is a time where everyone needs to stick together and take responsibility.
“There are certainly worst places to ply your trade at this moment in time than Dorchester Town FC.”
When asked how his meeting with the players went, Vickers added: “It was very positive. We all digested one or two things but the main thing now is that we focus on our trip to Staines Town on Saturday and look to put our disappointing FA Cup exit behind us.”
That second qualifying round departure at the hands of Weston-super-Mare last Saturday chalked up a fourth successive defeat for the Magpies, who are currently languishing 16th in the league, just three points above the drop-zone.
However, on-loan keeper Nick Jordan is adamant the club’s luck is about to change. He said: “We can definitely turn it around.
“The standard and the quality of the players here is far better than recent results are showing and it will not be long before we go on a bit of a run.
“It is hard to turn things around when they are not going for you but the boys are still bouncing around and they still have that winning mentality.”
Having only joined the Magpies on a month’s loan, Jordan is one of the players at the Avenue that could face an uncertain future, particularly after leaving his parent club Weymouth under a bit of a cloud.
However, the ex-Crawley Town stopper is refusing to think about that.
He added: “I have not tried to speak to anyone about that. I have come here for a month, and I am purely concentrating on my football.”
