WEYLINE are clearly the team to beat in the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership this season after they demolished 2009-10 champions Rodwell in emphatic fashion at the weekend.

Danny Andrews was the star of the show with the first of his four goals arriving on 22 minutes after some neat play from debutant Russell North.

Martin Masson then made it 2-0 from close range before Rodwell pulled one back just prior to the break through Ollie Stanton to give themselves a much-needed lifeline.

However, the second half was pretty much one-way traffic as Weyline went up through the gears and scored five more.

Andrews restored the two-goal advantage with a fine free-kick before then going on to complete his hat-trick by rounding keeper Ant Mauger, following a superb pass from Ethan Devaney.

Rodwell were clearly struggling with the pace of the Weyline attack and when Andrews netted again after an inch-perfect through ball from Ben Mackie their resistance completely faltered enabling Sam Nichols and Devaney to complete the rout in the closing stages.

The victory takes Adam Parker’s in-form side three points clear at the top of the table but second-placed Britannia do hold a game in hand.

The Portlanders raced into a commanding lead against Quayside at the Piggery before the game came to an abrupt end.

After starting with only nine men, the Quay quickly lost another player to injury, causing them to throw in the towel and hand their opponents a 5-0 victory.

It was a bitter blow for boss Bobby Darch to swallow and after the encounter he took the difficult decision to pull his side out of the league, citing player availability as the reason.

A league spokesman has since told Echosport that their place could be filled by a Portesham side but as yet no firm decisions have been made.

Elsewhere, title-holders Rendez-vous smashed nine without reply past Alexandra while SAS FC defeated Tuatara Bar 4-1 with doubles from Charlie May and Sam Moores.

SAS boss Danny Sanders, whose side now lies third, said: “T-Bar, without doubt, have some quality players but we showed great team work and were a constant threat on the break.”

Matt Camp replied for Chris Meadows’ men, who now sit second-bottom with just one point from four games.

Down in the Championship, Sailors Return progressed into the second round of the Dorset Sunday Junior Cup with a 6-4 victory at Newtown Rovers.

James Vincent and Jimmy Doug-las both grabbed braces and Filipe Medeiros also struck for the visitors but the man-of-the-match award went to their other scorer Chucky Taylor, who was a constant threat throughout.

Rob Maxted and Chris McIntyre also netted two goals apiece as Dolphin went through with a 6-3 win at Broadstone Conservatives. Their other goals came from Ross Jones and Dean Hauser.

Rock and Wellworthy also triumphed in their opening round ties.

The Abbotsbury Road outfit won 5-2 at Broadmayne, while their Wyke Regis counterparts needed extra-time to see off Clipper 4-2.

Meanwhile, in league action, Market House won 4-2 at Medics Away, Belvedere beat Old Castle 3-1 and Galaxy Lions triumphed 7-2 over Moby Dick’s.

Jamie Butler netted four for Galaxy with Tony Morris, John Chester and Teejay Smith-McFar-lane also getting in on the act.

Lions’ boss Dave Price said: “It is a relief to finally get our first win. Our performances have been good but in this game we were a lot more clinical in front of goal and that was the major difference.”
