MATT Groves believes the mentality in the Terras’ dressing room has completely changed over the past fortnight and is backing his men to keep the momentum going.

Weymouth have now won their last three on the road and lost just one of their last seven in all competitions with their latest victory coming in Tuesday night’s FA Cup second qualifying round replay at Hungerford Town.

Groves said: “Confidence is certainly starting to build and progress is being made.

“Our performance at Hungerford was excellent and the big difference now is that we will travel to Banbury United on Saturday expecting to get three points rather than just hoping.”

And no one has profited more from the side’s new-found belief than Groves himself, who has bagged four goals in his last three outings.

He added: “At the start of the season I was not playing particularly well. I was working hard but not getting anything for it.

“However, I then had a good game at Taunton Town and things have just rolled on from there.

“I am one of the more experienced players in the side and it is important in my role as assistant-manager to set an example.

“I don’t want to be seen by the rest of the lads as just a good talker and the fact I have managed to score a few goals recently is really pleasing.”

When asked about the club’s FA Cup tie at AFC Totton on October 15, Groves said: “When we went there in the league earlier in the season we felt we did not do ourselves justice so we will go there looking to give them one hell of a game.”
