TINTINHULL 1
WEYMOUTH RESERVERS 3
WEYMOUTH Reserves responded to a six-point deduction in the best possible manner – earning victory at mid-table Tintinhull.
The Terras have been punished on two separate accounts, one for fielding an ineligible player and the other for postponing the previous weekend’s clash with Westland Sports due to the fact they only had nine players at their disposal.
However, they put that disappointment behind them as two goals from Luke Winsper and one from Ricky Lane ended a run of six games without a win.
Joint-boss Jake Richmond said: “We were deducted three points for playing Chris Povall when he was banned, which was an administrative error that I only found out about two days after the game, and we were deducted another three points for calling last week’s game off.
“If they are going to do that to every team that calls a game off then I understand their decision.
“If we can appeal it though we will because we didn’t call the game off for fear of losing it, we did so because we didn’t have enough players.”
Reflecting on Saturday’s triumph, Richmond added: “We went with a different shape and we lined up 4-1-4-1, and they could not cope with it.
“We had a couple of chances early on, including a missed penalty. In fairness to Ashley Staines, the grass was long and it took all the pace out of his kick.
“But Luke found the top corner from a 30-yard free-kick a minute before half-time and we were buzzing at the break.
“We restricted them to long punts up-field and they didn’t really trouble us, so much so that they got a rocket off their manager at half-time. We could hear it in our changing room and he was screaming from the first minute to the last.
“They did have a good spell in the second half and they did equalise, but we changed things around a bit and Sean Zima squared for Ricky to make it 2-1.
“It was all us from then on and we got a second penalty with four minutes to go, which Luke scored to make the game safe.
“Matt Harvey is only 16 but he was by far and away our best player. We had four 16-year-olds in the squad and that was the major plus. It’s not about points for us, it’s about developing players.”
Terras: Mutch, Harvey, Anstey, Maxted, Staines, Winsper, A Skelton, Jarvis, Zima, Scott (Holland 60), Lane (Johnson 78).
