WEYMOUTH SPORTS 4
BLANDFORD UNITED RESERVES 0
STEVE Alcock was left with mixed emotions after being forced to don the gloves in his side’s victory over Blandford United Reserves at Cranford Avenue.
On the one hand, the Weymouth Sports’ manager was delighted with his side’s performance but on the other he felt let down by keeper Dan Floyd, who pulled out on the eve of the Dorset Senior League contest in order to travel with Dorchester Town Reserves instead.
Alcock said: “Dan is no longer at the club.
“During pre-season I sat down with him and he agreed that Weymouth Sports was to be his main priority, so to then receive a text so late in the week saying he was not available because he was travelling with Dorchester to the Isle of Wight instead was very disappointing.
“To do that to the rest of the lads is completely out of order and unfortunately it has also led to me having to tell Steve Walker he can no longer play for the club either through no fault of his own. The whole incident with Dan has left a bitter taste so I have made a decision that if players cannot train they cannot play, and unfortunately Steve falls into that bracket as he plays for Dorchester Reserves as well.
“Steve has had his ups and downs over the years but recently he has been fantastic and although he is disappointed he fully understands the reasons behind my decision.
“I am also sure he will be snapped up by someone else very quickly.”
Robbie Rolls bagged a brace for Sports whose other goals came from Sam Culpin and Andy Cleal.
Alcock added: “We were also without Scott Walker, Ben MacCon-nachie, Jason Thoday and Stu Dixon but the lads that came in were fantastic with Alex Mason doing a sterling job at right-back.
“Blandford are a big, physical side so we set out with a game plan to keep hold of the ball and make them chase us down on a very hot day, and it worked a treat.
“To win 4-0 after a narrow defeat at Kingston Lacy the week before showed great character and hopefully we can now carry that on into next Saturday’s game against Witchampton United.”
