OLYMPIC fever gripped Dorchester Middle School as weightlifter Michaela Breeze and triple-jumper Julian Golley came to town.
Breeze, who has competed at the last two Olympics in Athens and Beijing, as well as winning silver in last year’s Commonwealth Games, gave a “motivational and inspirational” speech to help excite pupils in the run-up to London 2012.
The 32-year-old was also joined by Golley, who won gold at the 1994 Commonwealth Games and also appeared in the 1992 Olympics.
PE teacher Matt Roberts said: “Given our quest to embrace the Olympic Games and its ideals it was fantastic for the school and the children to have Michaela, who has been to the Olympics twice.
“She spoke about her route to the Olympics, her dreams as a nine-year-old to get there, and she spoke about the dedication and determination you need to succeed.
“She also talked about climbing the ladder but also coming down a few rungs in order to succeed.
“She was very motivational and inspirational, especially to the girls. She also showed a DVD of her exploits and even lifted a child above her head.
“Assisting Michaela was Julian, who won gold at the Commonwealth Games, so they were two very distinguished guests.
“Everyone had their photo taken with Michaela and she chatted freely to the pupils, who also went through a few exercises as part of a fundraiser.”
