CALNE 10
WEYMOUTH 21
WILL Quick took his tally to seven tries in just four games as Weymouth booked their place in the last eight of the Dorset & Wilts Plate.
Quick was a constant threat at Calne but, with brother Julian also touching down, he was by no means the only star in the visiting line-up, as head coach Paul Harding testified.
He said: “Craig Barter put in an outstanding performance and he and Julian Quick were probably the main difference between the two sides.
“Will Hughes also stood out while Will Quick looked like he was going to score every time he got the ball.”
Harding, who also saw Max Baudouin convert all three tries, added: “It was a good win away from home so we’re pleased.
“They battered us for the first 10 minutes but once we got to grips with the game and got the long journey out of our legs, we were the stronger side.
“They made life very difficult for us. They had a very strong defence and they played a very direct type of rugby but we won comfortably in the end.
“We never looked like we were going to lose, they just made us work for everything we got, so it was a tough old game.
“We made five changes in the forwards from the previous week and that shows there are people who are able to come in and bridge the gap. The amount of players at the club who can play at this level is increasing.”
Unbeaten Weymouth return to Dorset & Wilts One South action this weekend with their first home match of the season – Sherborne Seconds the visitors to Monmouth Avenue.
