PINK was the colour at a charity event at Weymouth Golf Club where 220 participants took to the course to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign and Dorset County Hospital’s Digital Mammography Appeal.

The event, branded Pink Day, saw teams of four take part in a best-two-scores-count competition with a twist.

Not only did each quartet have to include a lady golfer but every member also had to wear something pink with some going to town more than others.

Dave Picton, who helped organise the spectacle, said: “If teams could not find a lady golfer, one of their members had to dress as one and it certainly made for some interesting costumes.

“The main aim of the day was to get people out there enjoying themselves and it went off superbly.

“Not only was it blessed with good weather but out of the 220 people that took part, there were only less than a dozen that did not have pink on.

“At this moment in time we are not quite sure how much we have raised yet, as it will take a month or so for all the monies to come in but it should be a good sum for two extremely worthwhile causes.

“Last year we raised £12,000, which was exceptional, and if we can raise half that this time around we will be very happy.

“The day also included a Neil Diamond tribute act in the evening and an auction, and the clubhouse was absolutely packed, which was just fantastic.

“There was no prize fund on the day and costs were kept to a minimum so we could raise as much money as possible.

“We also received great support from several local businesses and I would like take this opportunity to thank them all for their generosity because the day would not have been such a success without them.”

Gary Bond, Tim Stevens, Bob Jennings and Paul Dashwood made up the winning team at the event, which continues to be an annual tradition.
