BRENDON King immediately turned his attention to Saturday’s huge FA Cup second qualifying round tie against Hungerford Town after seeing his side experience another game to forget at the Bob Lucas Stadium last night.
Although the Red Insure League Cup was low on Weymouth’s list of priorities this season, yesterday evening’s 1-0 defeat against Sholing Sports was hardly ideal preparation for this weekend’s potential money-spinner, which will see the winners secure a prize fund of £4,500.
Unbeaten Hungerford currently sit 12 points above Sholing at the summit of Evo-Stik Division One South & West and King is well aware his side will have to perform a lot better to stand any chance of progressing to the next round.
He told Echosport: “Our decision making is what cost us. We kept the ball well on occasions but we made the wrong choices in key areas.
“It’s extremely frustrating but we had a very young side out there tonight and as long as they learn from it then that is all you can ask.
“The main thing was that we came through the game unscathed.
“Sam Malsom came off as a precautionary measure but apart from that everyone is fine so we should be raring to go come the weekend.” The defeat ends the Terras’ four-game unbeaten run and takes their home record to just one win from seven in all competitions.
