Upwey & Broadwey 6 BLANDFORD UTD RES 1
ETHAN Devaney netted a hat-trick as Upwey & Broadwey ran riot against Blandford United Reserves at Redlands in the Dorset Senior League.
The hosts controlled the game from the outset but did not make their dominance count until after the Royals had pulled back to 1-1 early in the second half.
Upwey boss Steve Reynolds said: “We stepped up to the mark at the weekend and all our top players performed.
“We were one up at half-time when it could have been half a dozen and although they equalised we always looked like we would run out clear winners and so it proved.
“On another day it would have been double figures and the whole team could be proud of their display.
“Adam Billings and Phil Anderson never lost a header at the back, Ben Porteous and Jason Pearce were excellent in the full-back roles and Richard Frost was awesome in the centre of midfield alongside Charlie Kenderdine, who scored on his debut.
“We also dropped Ethan back into midfield in order to get him on the ball more and he played superbly too.
“Not only did he score a hat-trick, with two of them coming from the spot, but his all-round game was excellent as well.
“Despite missing a couple of chances, Sam Nichols was a constant threat as well, and it was great to see Ty Young and Pete Bochonko link up well up front with both of them getting on the scoresheet.
“Justin Heredge also came on with 20 minutes to go in what was his first appearance following a broken foot, so as you can see there were certainly a lot of encouraging signs.
“All in all it was just a great performance but at the same time it is only one game.
“The challenge now is to replicate that every week.”
Upwey have now moved up to eighth in the table, just two points adrift of the top three.
Upwey: Cowne, Porteous, Billings, Anderson, Pearce, Nichols (Heredge 70), Frost, Kenderdine, Devaney, Young, Bochonko. Subs not used: D McLucas, Jarvis.
