KINGSTON LACY 2 WEYMOUTH SPORTS 1
STEVE Alcock could not fault his players despite seeing them surrender a one-goal lead in the closing stages at Kingston Lacy.
The Weymouth Sports boss watched Andy Cleal put his side ahead with just 15 minutes remaining but the hosts soon responded with efforts from Oliver Cherrett and Graham Cole to move to the summit of the Dorset Senior League table.
Alcock said: “We definitely deserved a draw but I am not going to say we deserved all three points because at the end of the day it takes two to tango.
“It was 0-0 up until the 75th minute, with both defences looking solid, so when Andy put us in front it appeared we had scored at the right time.
“It was a great goal too. Jason Thoday started the move down the left and after Andy had interchanged possession with Ben Thomas and Robbie Rolls, he took a touch and struck it home from 20 yards with the ball flying in off a post.
“However, as they always say, you are at your most vulnerable when you have just scored and within two minutes they were level.
“We just did not batten down the hatches quick enough after going ahead and when they went on to get the second it was very disappointing for all of us.”
Alcock, whose side now sit ninth, went on to add: “There were also a few incidents during the game that I was unhappy about both on and off the field, and I think they got into our heads a little bit.
“They got a penalty that Dan Floyd saved but straight after it people were getting into each other’s faces.
“There were also a couple of elbows aimed at people and on another day they could well have been down to nine men fairly early on but they got away with it and that can happen sometimes.
“At the end I was just frustrated for the lads more than anything else because they had worked their socks off and to not come away with anything was hard to take.
“Had we won it would have been us at the top of the table but to be honest, at the start of the season, I would have taken six points from the first four games.
“We are a very young side and these first few matches have all been about the players proving they could step up and compete at this level, and they have certainly done that, so at this moment in time I can have no complaints at all.”
