WEYMOUTH YOUTH 5 BROCKENHURST WHITES 2

WEYMOUTH Youth maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign with victory over Brockenhurst in a keenly-fought contest.

It was slightly against the run of play when Weymouth took a fourth-minute lead, Oliver Thomas crossing for Jack Chatfield to open the scoring.

Though the goal settled the Terras, the Whites responded well and the home defence was experiencing its busiest afternoon of the season so far.

However, Tyler Chapman and Ed Spearing’s strong breaks from midfield gradually turned the tide in the Terras’ favour and moments later the former had an effort disallowed for offside.

Despite further efforts from Chatfield and Elvie Purnell, the Terras had to thank Adam Purchase for maintaining their lead when he saved one-on-one.

As the second half got underway, the introduction of Jake Hawker and Ryan Hannigan, coupled with Brockenhurst being a man down, galvanised the Terras into early dominance.

And after Purnell had been denied, the resultant corner was fired home by Thomas.

With the Whites back to a full complement, the game became stretched. But it was Weymouth who added a third with Chapman finding the roof of the net.

However, against the run of play, Weymouth conceded their first goal of the season.

The three-goal margin was soon restored though when Thomas’ searing break down the left saw him upended in the box and Toby Brown rifled the spot-kick home.

Thomas and Chatfield then combined to set up Cameron Lawrence to score the fifth.

To their credit, Brockenhurst were rewarded with a late second while Hawker’s header just missed the target as the Terras finished in style.
