BRENDON King has called upon his players to start taking more responsibility for their own performances.

The Weymouth boss has come under fire in recent weeks following a series of poor home displays but he is confident the tide will turn with a little more application.

King, whose side host Evo-Stik South & West Division One outfit Sholing Sports in the Red Insure League Cup tonight (7.45pm), said: “On Saturday I actually asked the question why are we not performing at home to the lads at half-time but I did not get much of a response and they could not answer me.

“So, the truth is I don’t know what the reason is but one thing is for sure and that is each and every one of them needs to start taking more responsibility out there.

“At some levels, when one or two players are not fully on it, you can carry them with the extra quality you possess but we are not fortunate enough to be in that sort of position.

“We cannot afford to carry players and it is up to every last one of them to take care of their own performances and ask where they are going wrong if they are not up to standard.

“Having said that though, we are currently four unbeaten and that is the positive we can take from it.

“It is just a case of taking that extra step and trying to be more consistent, and with hard work and a little bit more luck I am sure that will come.”

Commenting on his plans for this evening, King went on to add: “We will try and put out the strongest team we can.

“We have not got the biggest squad to be able to rotate things and the fact we have had quite a few games recently means we will just have to see how everyone feels.

“We looked a bit leggy on Saturday and with Ollie Tribe struggling with a bad toe it may well give us another opportunity to take a look at one or two of the reserves.”

Another doubt ahead of the visit of the Magpies is top-scorer Warren Byerley, who suffered a facial injury at the weekend following a clash with the Barwell keeper.

King said: “Wozza is going to go to hospital to get his nose checked out. He thinks it is probably broken but knowing the type of player he is, he will probably want to play anyway.”

* Admission for tonight’s game is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 for children and the unemployed.
