ANDOVER NEW ST 3
BRIDPORT 6
BRIDPORT stopped the rot of five successive defeats in emphatic fashion, as they smashed six past Andover New Street to book their place in the first round of the FA Vase.
Dan Wise bagged two – the second coming after the hosts had a man sent off for deliberate handball – while Matt Condliffe, Tom Richard-son, Robin Jones and Sam Charles also found the net to bank the Bees £700 and set up a clash with Wessex Premier League outfit Christ-church.
Boss Trevor Senior said: “We were comfortable in the first half but we let them back into it in the second.
“We created so many chances that it could have been double figures.
“It was 3-0 at half-time and I said to the lads that it could go one of two ways – either we keep the ball and run up a big score or if we’re not careful, they could nick one and have something to go on.
“It turned out to be the latter as they got one back. Although we were still creating chances, they made it 3-2 on the break and I thought how are they in the game?
“But thankfully we got a fourth and that killed the game.”
Senior, whose side return to league action this weekend with a trip to Street, added: “It was pleasing that we scored six but the main thing is that we won and are through to the next round.”
Condliffe opened the scoring on the quarter hour with a crisp finish and the lead was doubled shortly after as a 25-yard drive from Wise proved too hot to handle for the home gloveman.
Charles looked set to treble the advantage with a superb overhead kick, but the hand of an opposing player kept the effort at bay with the offender dismissed as a result.
Wise’s spot-kick was saved but the midfielder reacted quickest to gobble up the rebound.
Shane Evans then set up Richardson to restore the two-goal cushion before substitute Jones added a fifth.
Andover refused to lie down and once again added to their tally, but it was the Bees who had the final say as Charles completed the scoring.
The only negatives for the West Dorset outfit were injuries to Russell Legg (hamstring), Chris Clarke (ankle) and Richardson (foot).
Bees: Filkins, Condliffe, C Clarke (Lock 46), Evans, Senior, Hayter, J Charles, Wise, S Charles, Richardson (Jones 75), Legg (Symes 20).
