FOLLOWING 17 years of motorcycle meetings, 2010 saw the local Woolbridge Motor Club promote the first speed hillclimbs for competitors on four wheels at the Manor Farm course at Charmouth.

Continuing on from the success of the meeting staged 12 months ago, competitors will return to the testing course to do battle in two-action packed days of motorsport, today and tomorrow, when regional championships in both the central southern and south west associations of motor clubs will be contested for.

Lyme Regis driver and recently crowned Wiscombe Park champion, Craig Moore, will look to repeat his class victory of last year in his Ford Cortina when he faces the rapid Escort of Tim Porter in the Rally Car class, while Axminster resident Lee Moore will face a stern test in his Citroen AX GT in the Road-going Series Production Car category.

Moore will have considerable competition, including engine builder Steve Harris with his Vauxhall Corsa.

Having taken a double victory recently at Wiscombe Park, another Vauxhall driver, Stewart Lillington, will be looking for a repeat in the 1800cc to 2600cc division of the Modified Limited Production Car class.

And there will also be plenty of interest in two of the Road-going Specialist Production Car classes where Westfield drivers from Frampton near Dorchester will be in action.

Hayley Thorne contests the 1400cc to 1800cc capacity split, whilst Stewart Green goes for glory in the 1800cc to 2600cc division.

Another motoring spectacle is also in store in the Modified Specialist Production Car class where Weymouth drivers, Geoff and Graham Blake, face Mike Rudge in his 2.3 litre Westfield sports car.

Last year the Cwmbran driver narrowly defeated Geoff Blake by a scant one tenth of a second.

The Sports Libre class has both quality and quantity with an entry of 11 drivers, including Frampton duo Rodney Thorne and Colin Pook, who have been forced to vacate the cockpit of both the Pilbeam MP58 single-seater and MP43 sports racing chassis due to a two litre engine capacity at Manor Farm. Accordingly, Pook’s Vision V87 has been prepared specifically for the Charmouth events.

The up to 2000cc racing car class sees Roger Cock and Andrew Forsyth share driving duties in the former’s Pilbeam MP54, in a bid against the Ralt RT3 of Johns Burton and Opie.

Gates will open for the practice runs at 10am each day with the event starting after a break for lunch. Commentary will only be available for the competitive runs in the afternoon.

Admission will be £5 for adults with accompanied children under 14 getting in for free.

Car parking is also free and includes transfer to the competitor’s enclosure.

Manor Farm Holiday Centre is situated on The Street in Charmouth. Follow signs to car parks and the venue.
