ASHLEY Vickers knows exactly what is in store for his side at the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (3pm) when he goes head-to-head with his former mentor Garry Hill.
The Dorchester Town boss played under the Woking manager at Dagenham & Redbridge and Weymouth, and is fully aware of what it is going to take to get one over on him this weekend.
Vickers, whose side enters the game off the back of two defeats, told Echosport: “I played for Garry for 10 years and he is a good family friend, so there will be plenty of banter tomorrow I am sure.
“I have the utmost respect for him and would love to beat him but I am sure he would love to beat me too.
“We have had them watched but you always know exactly what to expect from a Garry Hill team.
“He gets good lads together who will run through brick walls for him so we will have to be at our best to compete with them.
“The two clubs are very different in stature but I am confident we will give a good account of ourselves.”
Vickers watched his side suffer a miserable 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Weston-super-Mare last Tuesday but he is adamant his men can bounce back against the league leaders.
He added: “I am not sure if the lads turned up in midweek with the mindset that they would comfortably win against Weston-super-Mare or what but there is no doubt that it was a disappointing evening.
“It was a horrible performance on a horrible night and we did not do ourselves justice but the players know that.
“In football, there is no point in being destructive, you have to be constructive and I think the lads learned a big lesson there.
“Prior to that game, we put in three good performances and the key now is trying to find that all-important continuity.
“It is easy getting up for the big games against the likes of Welling and Woking but we need to ensure we do that against the less fancied teams as well.
“One thing I will say about the lads is that they always tend to bounce back and there is no reason why they cannot do that again tomorrow.”
Nick Crittenden (hamstring) and Mark Jermyn (knee) will both miss out for the Magpies, who currently sit 16th in Blue Square Bet South, having claimed 12 points from a possible 30 so far.
Meanwhile, the Cards sit top of the pile with just one defeat to their name, which came on the road at Welling on September 3.
They are also the second-highest scorers in the league with a mammoth 26 goals from just 10 matches.
