BRENDON King is licking his lips at the prospect of having Sam Malsom and Jamie Beasley terrorising defences in a couple of weeks’ time.
The Weymouth boss has deployed Malsom on the left-flank of late and it has heralded five goals in his last two outings, and with the suspended Beasley due to return on October 4, there is clearly cause for optimism at the club.
However, the Terras still sit in a precarious position in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier and will no doubt be looking to address that at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow when mid-table Barwell pay a visit (3pm).
King, whose men currently sit two points behind the Kirkby Roaders in 18th spot, said: “We are unbeaten in our last three games in which we have conceded just one goal, and now it is about trying to keep that going.
“For whatever reason, our performances on the road of late have been a lot better than the ones at home and hopefully we can put that right tomorrow.
“We have a lot of young lads in the team and it could be a case where they are a little more frightened of making a mistake at home but with everyone behind them I am confident we will turn that around.
“We are creating chances and scoring goals now, and if we can continue doing that and add a bit of consistency we will stand every chance of going on to enjoy a decent season.”
Malsom netted a brace in a 2-1 friendly win over his former club Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday night and if his fine form continues King has not discounted the possibility of the forward winning a permanent contract.
He added: “We played Sam up front a couple of times but on the way to Taunton last Monday I had a few things nagging me and decided to play him wide left where he ended up scoring a hat-trick.
“He has a good shot on him and playing there allows him to cut in on his right foot and get in little pockets where he is difficult to pick up.
“And with Jamie Beasley due back at the start of next month it really does give us great options that will no doubt excite the fans.
“Those two running at defences is enough to give any team problems at this level so there is certainly plenty to look forward to.
“When I sat down with Sam a couple of weeks’ ago and signed him on non-contract terms, I told him that if he does the business we would sit down again and talk about getting him on contract.
“He has now scored five goals in his last game and a half so it could be a case now where we do that sooner rather than later.
“However, despite having released a few recently, we are still over budget, and that is why we need as many fans as possible to turn out and support us.
“I know we have under performed on our own patch so far but we are working hard to address that and need the fans there to get behind us, particularly in the next four games, which are all at home.
“Also, if there is anyone out there who can help us in any way in terms of fundraising or making some sort of a contribution to get Sam on a contract we would like to hear from them.”
Byron Napper (ankle) and Stephen Reed (groin) are both struggling with knocks for the Terras but should be fit enough to feature tomorrow.
