DORSET Pentathletes came away with a tremendous haul of 24 medals from the final race of the British Biathle Series in Poole.
Thirty-six local athletes represented the county outfit in the run-swim-run competition with distances comprising of 500m to 1,500m in the run sections and 50m to 200m in the swim, depending on the age group.
The first race started in sunny and warm conditions with the boys’ and girls’ 10-and-under (500m-50m-500m), which saw George Tester (first), Ryan Symington (second) and William Baker (third) secure a Dorset one, two, three.
There was also success in the girls’ race where Emily Jefffies (second) and Aegean Bramley (third) produced great performances to also finish on the podium.
Another clean sweep from the Dorset lads in the 12-and-under section saw Travis Bramley (first), Tom Boulton (second) and Alander Jefferies (third) all excel, with Lucy Brown (first), Rachel Jefferies (third), Flora Johnson (fourth), Zoe Gowers (fifth) Sacha Kelly (seventh) and Ellis Martin (ninth) doing likewise for the girls.
Then came the 14-and-under category (500m-100m-500m) where it was the girls’ turn to display their dominance.
Elizabeth Hood (first) led the way ahead of Victoria Halford (second), Bethan Whittall (third), Rebecca Bowles (fourth), Sophie Easterbrooke (sixth) and Leanne Symington (seventh).
The boys were not to be outdone though with Harrison Yarnold (first), Jordon Symington (second), Oscar Esposti (third), Oliver Mullins (fourth), Jacob Whittall (sixth) and Jonathan Greenwood (seventh) all posting great times.
Next up was the Masters event (1,000m-100m-1,000m) where Nigel Brain (second), Mark Bramley (third), Nick Ireland (fourth) and Richard Gowers (fifth) all fought hard in the men’s 40 plus before Linda Chitty (first) claimed success in the women’s 50 plus.
Chris Perham then showed everyone a clean pair of heels to win the boys’ 16-and-under (1,000m-200m-1,000m) by over a minute and there was an equally impressive display in the girls’ race where Olivia Esposti (first) edged out Danielle Bury (second).
The meeting then came to a close with Africa Mason (first) pulling off a great performance for the ladies in the 18-and-under (1,500m-200m-1,500m) where Richard Bowles (second) also enjoyed success in the men’s section.
Dorset team manager Mick Flaherty said: “Once again there was an excellent spirit in the camp, with the whole team supporting each other throughout the day.
“This was one of our most successful medal tallies to date in a British Biathle Series race and it is good preparation for the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria on Sunday.”
Twenty-two Dorset members will be in the British team for the World Championships and they include: 10-and-under – George Tester, Emily Jefferies, Aegean Bramley.
12-and-under – Travis Bramley, Rachel Jefferies, Emily Yapp, Charlie Samouelle.
14-and-under – Bethan Whittall, Rebecca Bowles, Elizabeth Hood, Harrison Yarnold, Jacob Whittall, Victoria Halford, Oliver Mullins, Oscar Esposti.
16-and-under – Chris Perham, Olivia Esposti.
18-and-under – Africa Mason.
Masters – Andy Whittall, Mike Flaherty, Mark Bramley, Linda Chitty.
