POOLE BOROUGH 3
WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3
TWO wonder strikes from Luke Winsper helped Weymouth Reserves end a run of five straight defeats in the Magna Dorset Premier League.
The young winger opened the scoring with a 30-yard “screamer” before finding the top corner once more to make it 2-1.
And although Pete Jarvis also found the net, the visitors were pegged back for a third time as Poole Borough ensured a share of the spoils.
Terras’ joint-manager Jake Richmond said: “A draw was a fair result as if either team had lost it would have been unfair.
“Poole is a tough place to go, so to go there with a young team and get a point after five defeats in a row was pleasing.”
He added: “Their pitch was awful but we adapted well and we were brilliant in the first half, creating plenty of chances. Ricky Lane had a couple and so did Simon Crouch, who was unplayable at times.
“We went 1-0 up three minutes before the break with Luke hitting an absolute screamer – it was even better than Nani’s goal for Man Utd against Chelsea.
“It flew into the top corner like a rocket and their keeper could not get near it.
“We didn’t want half-time to come as we were all over them. It did come and the second half was a different story as they pushed an extra man into midfield and we couldn’t cope.
“They equalised within minutes of the restart but again Luke found the top corner from 20 yards.
“But it was 2-2 a few minutes later and to be fair to Poole they played some decent stuff in the second half.
“Pete, who gave 100 per cent from the first minute to the last, poked home following a goalmouth scramble and after Sean Zima hit the crossbar, they made it 3-3 on the break.
“We were hanging on in the last 10 minutes and Carl Mutch, playing in goal because Chris Povall was with the first team, made two Peter Schmeichel-like saves.”
Meanwhile, Richmond expressed his disappointment at seeing only two officials take to the field.
He said: “Out of nine games this season, there have been two where we’ve not had the full complement of officials, which is disappointing in what is supposed to be Dorset’s premier competition.”
Terras: Mutch, Sharpe, Anstey (Harvey 73), Hanger, Staines, Winsper, A Skelton, Jarvis, Zima (Scott 85), Crouch (Ironside 65), Lane.
