Dorchester TOWN RESERVES 1 EASTLEIGH RESERVES 4

ROBBIE Taylor believes Dorchester Town Reserves will only improve as the Wyvern Premier League season goes on.

The Magpies’ latest outing ended in 4-1 defeat at home to Eastleigh, with Jamie Symes grabbing the county town consolation.

The reserve-team boss cited “a lack of concentration” as key to their downfall but insists the future is bright for his young charges.

He said: “It was a decent game. We wondered how good the quality of the league would be but there are some very decent sides and it’s going to be a very good standard of football.

“It’s a big jump for some of the young lads but they can only benefit in the long run.

“They held their own against Eastleigh and after we equalised we looked like we were starting to dominate.

“The big thing at the moment is the pace of the game and a lack of concentration at times, which cost us goals. Realistically it will take a couple of months to get used to it all but come Christmas we will be a better side for it.

“Of course you want to win games but it’s not the sole purpose of the reserve team.

“Jamie Gleeson, Rico Wilson and Ryan Dovell all played for us last week and that has paid dividends for the first team, so the reserves are doing what we set out to do.

“Steve Devlin got a game under his belt on Wednesday and we also had others who are sniffing around the first-team squad. The younger players can only learn from playing with the likes of Devs.”

The Magpies’ second-string are in action again tomorrow as they travel to winless Fleet Town (3pm).

Magpies: Floyd, S Walker, Kimber, Austin, Butcher, Bell (Brooks), Carlile, Devlin, Symes (Twyford), A Taylor (Vallier), Way.
