BRENDON King is hoping last night’s single-goal victory at Cirencester Town proves to be the turning point in Weymouth’s season.
The Terras’ boss, who received a vote of confidence from the club’s board at the weekend, watched Warren Byerley grab the only goal on 89 minutes to end a run of four games without a win.
But perhaps the most significant achievement on the night was the clean sheet, which was brought about without the services of experienced defender Mark Peters, who was released on Monday night.
King said: “I felt confident about the back four last night. We defended really well and kept our shape but what delighted me the most was the work rate we produced all over the pitch.
“We never stopped running and in the end we got the goal we deserved, and everybody is chuffed to pieces.”
Commenting on Peters’ departure, King added: “He lives in Northampton and unfortunately travelling has become a bit of a problem so we both decided it was best to go our separate ways.”
The Terras, who have risen to 18th in the table, will next be in action on Saturday when they host Taunton Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup (3pm).
