HAVING disposed of table-topping Welling United at the weekend, Magpies’ boss Ashley Vickers is targeting back-to-back wins this evening (7.45pm).
Dorchester have yet to record successive victories this season but tonight visit rock-bottom Hampton & Richmond on the back of a superb show against the previously unbeaten Wings.
Looking ahead to the Blue Square Bet South encounter, which was originally postponed last month due to a waterlogged pitch, Vickers told Echosport: “It would be great if we could get back-to-back wins as obviously it’s something we haven’t done yet this season.
“We spoke before the game on Saturday and we said there will be plenty of ups and downs this season. We just need to keep a hold of our emotions and apply everything we do in training. If we do that we will be more successful than not this season.
“Players just need to do what they are paid to do – goalkeepers need to save shots and strikers need to score goals. If we can do that on a consistent basis we will be okay.
“The lads know they can beat anyone. We have proved time and time again that we can beat the best teams. We just seem to let ourselves down against the clubs around us.
“Financially, Hampton are a very similar club to us and it’s always been a healthy fixture. It would be great to make the journey worthwhile. A lot of the boys are taking half a day off work in order to travel – let’s make it count.”
The county town chief though, is unable to name an unchanged line-up with skipper Mark Jermyn (knee) and winger Ben Dickenson (holiday), who bagged his first goal for the club on Saturday, both ruled out.
Ashley Nicholls (ankle) could return after missing the 3-2 win over Welling.
Vickers added: “Jem’s got a problem with his medial ligament. We’re waiting to find out the extent of the injury but he’ll probably be out for a few weeks.
“Ben is away for a week and it was a holiday that was booked before he signed for us.
“Ash might be okay but Ryan Dovell came in and was superb on Saturday, as were the others who came in.
Tonight’s opponents are still searching for their first win of the campaign, with only two points to their name thus far.
