UNDER pressure boss Ashley Vickers led Dorchester to a stunning 3-2 victory over league leaders Welling United on Saturday.
Goals from Chris Flood (penalty), Ben Dickenson and Gary Bowles saw the Magpies take a 3-0 lead at the Avenue Stadium before the high-flying Wings rallied with two goals from Jack Parkinson and Lee Clarke.
However, the victory did come at a cost with skipper Mark Jermyn being stretchered off in the clash with suspected cruciate ligament damage, which is continuing to be assessed. Despite the victory, Vickers refused to speak to Echosport after the game.
An article that appeared in the paper over the weekend concerning the club’s reported interest in Weymouth keeper Nick Jordan is believed to be the root cause of the shutdown, with the Magpies’ boss ordering his players to also take part in the stand.
Vickers claimed in the story he had no contact with the ex-Crawley Town stopper while his chairman Shaun Hearn refused to give a definitive answer before going on to publicly display his frustration at the club’s disappointing start to the season despite being “considerably over budget”.
Vickers certainly answered his critics against the previously unbeaten Wings by masterminding an incredible team performance.
Town are now 15th in Blue Square Bet South and will no doubt be looking for another big display at basement boys Hampton & Richmond Borough tomorrow night (7.45pm).
