SPECULATION surrounding the future of Weymouth boss Brendon King has been put to bed by the club’s hierarchy.

Rumours that a board meeting was due to be held after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Chesham United was what sparked the uncertainty but the club’s directors have immediately responded with the following statement: “The board is fully behind Brendon King and understood that when he took the job it would be a difficult season.

“A lot of young lads have broken into the team giving 110 per cent commitment and although this Saturday’s result was disappointing, anyone who was at the game knows just how unlucky we were not to come away with something.

“All we ask now is for the fans to stick with it and hopefully we can get a positive result on Tuesday and again next Satur-day in the FA Cup.”

Tim Stephenson put the Terras ahead at the Meadow but they were unable to find the net again, despite creating several clear openings, and went on to ship four more goals, giving them the joint worst defensive record in the league. But King, whose side are now second-bottom in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier, is determined to focus on the positives from the performance, which included a fine debut from new boy Sam Molsom.

He said: “We looked a lot better going forward and created a lot of opportunities, and I thought Sam looked very sharp and could form a good partnership with Warren Byerley, which are all positives we can take into the next game.”

* Former midfielder Rob Wolleaston was in the stand at the Meadow along with the club’s ex-chief executive Gary Calder.

The former is currently being linked with a possible move to Chesham following his release last week.
