Portland Victoria Bowling Club has celebrated his 100th anniversary.
A special match was arranged on the island’s Victoria Gardens green with the club inviting rinks representing South Dorset Members from the Bowling Assoc-iation, Wellworthy, Weymouth & Melc-ombe Regis, Greenhill and Portland Borstal Officers competed against a team from Portland Victoria.
After the match a celebration tea was held at the nearby Boat That Rocks restaurant.
President of the Portland club, Dave Wheeler thanked both members and guests for their support for the special afternoon.
The visiting rinks won the game, with the best performing home rink being skipped by Peter Birch supported by Ken Bryan, Tim Bowen and Stanway Williams.
The top away rink was that under the leadership of South Dorset Bowling Association president Derek Wensley, who, with David Wise, Edna Jarvis and Nigel Butler, defeated Dave Wheeler's quartet.
The next celebratory event being organised by the club is the George Davey Day on Saturday, August 6 when all past and present players of Portland Victoria Bowling Club are invited to attend.
