BRENDON King has not given up hope of luring Dorchester Town asset Nathan Walker to the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The new Weymouth manager held talks with the towering defender last Wednesday evening but since then Magpies’ boss Ashley Vickers has claimed the 24-year-old has agreed to stay put.

However, with Walker still yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal at the Avenue Stadium, King remains firmly in the hunt.

Speaking yesterday, the Terras’ boss said: “I have not heard anything yet. Obviously, I have seen what Ashley Vickers has said but I have received no updates from the player himself and until he turns around and says no then we are still in with a chance.

“As I understand it he went away at the weekend to think about his options and would come back to us after that, so we will just have to wait and see what happens.”

When asked about other potential targets, King added: “I have been on the phone flat out and quite a few have agreed to come pre-season training, although I do not want to elaborate on that too much at the moment.

“What I will say is that I have spoken to Paul Bodin, who is the youth-team manager at Swindon Town, and he has recommended three players to us that were released by the club at the end of last season, and having had a brief chat to all of them they are very keen to come down.

“We are also still in talks with Rob Wolleaston and a few of the other lads that finished last season with us but once again any deals that are struck have to be right for the club and for the player.

“At the end of the day we have got to live within our means.”
