STAND-IN skipper Simon Barrett is targeting victory on home soil following last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Bridport.

Portland Red Triangle failed to fire with the bat in their 18-run reverse against the West Dorset outfit and their determined leader is expecting better fortunes against Blandford Seconds at Reforne tomorrow (2pm).

Barrett said: “Home games are always a bit of an advantage and hopefully we can make the most of that against Blandford.

“We have been bowled out three times this season for less than 160, which should not occur with the line-up we have, and I don’t expect it to happen again this season.

“It is particularly bad when the bowlers have done their job and we have taken our catches in the field because it just leaves you thinking of what might have been.

“I think a bit of complacency might have crept in to one or two players last week and tomorrow I will be looking for everyone to make amends.”

The islanders have made one change ahead of the Dorset League Division Three encounter, with Simon Proffitt coming in for the unavailable Jon Dixon. Ellia Manen, who impressed on his debut at Bridport by snaring 2-24, retains his place.

Portland: Barrett, Adkins, Proffitt, Leake, Whisker, Sawyer, Laws, S Males, M Randell, Davey, Manen.

Matcball sponsor: Boho * Grant Neven will welcome back opening bowler Dan Strong tomorrow for his side’s trip to Shaftesbury in Dorset League Division Eight (2pm).

The Portland Seconds skipper said: “As a team we have been producing excellent all-round displays and the spirit within the team is amazing.

“We go into this game full of confidence and feel that we are more than a match for any side at the moment. It’s certainly great to have Dan back, who on his day can rip through any batting line-up.”

Portland Seconds: Neven, Qualye, D Males, M Males, Strong, Lamming, D Price, R Price, Nott, Johnson, Blackman. Meet at ground 11.45am.
