SAGGIES managed to beat the rain and the Lugger to move into a share of top spot in Swift Signs Division One.
A fine performance from the Saggies’ bowling attack saw the Lugger dismissed for 65.
Simon Browne (3-17) made inroads into the top order but it was Paul Gadsby (2-12) who finally broke the resistance of Andy Jarvis (20) before leaving it to John Ryan (4-11) to mop up the tail.
The Lugger took two early wickets to give them some hope but Browne (23no) and Brendon King (14no) took charge and guided Saggies to an eight-wicket win.
In Division Two, Albany Cavaliers extended their lead to four points with a nine-wicket win over Wessex Gasworks.
Cavaliers’ bowlers Graham Puckett (1-7) and Gary King (0-5) did an excellent job of tying down Gasworks in the opening eight overs but a belated onslaught in the closing stages eventually saw them finish on 74-2.
However, Phil Eaton (46no) then carried his bat to maintain the Albany’s 100 per cent record with the loss of just one wicket.
Southill Snooker Club moved into second spot with a six-wicket success against Cosmos.
Southill’s Simon Bailey put in a man-of-the-match performance starting with a tight four-over spell, which yielded only nine runs and a key wicket of Rob Hodges. He then led the run chase with an unbeaten 70.
It was the Leggs that caused the damage to the Cosmos innings as Derek (3-18) and Steve (2-26) ripped through the middle order as Cosmos finished on 97-8.
Cosmos made early breakthroughs as Hibberd (1-20), Cruickshank (1-26) and then Sallows (2-11) picked up wickets, but they had no answer to Bailey who led his side home.
